This fall, we took a trip to Old Sturbridge Village, an open-air museum in Massachusetts that offers a glimpse into life in the 1830s. It was a fantastic way to step back in time and learn about early New England life.
One of my favorite parts was exploring the many farmhouses. The interiors were all unique, with some being very minimalist, while others were more elaborate, featuring beautiful wallpaper and bed canopies. I loved seeing how different styles reflected the lives of the people who lived there.
The staff dressed in authentic period costumes and truly brought the village to life. Their friendly and engaging demeanor made for a memorable experience as they shared stories and demonstrated crafts in a natural, interactive way. The pottery shop was a favorite. It was filled floor to ceiling with beautiful vessels crafted on-site.
I also loved the layout of the mercantile store, with its shelves lining the perimeter and counters in front. This design allowed visitors to ask the shop owner to showcase the items they were interested in, creating an inviting and intentional shopping experience.
I cannot recommend this place enough! It truly felt like stepping back in time, and my only regret was not having more time to take it all in.
